Salt spray testing (otherwise known as fog testing) is the process of simulating and exposing of a corrosive saline environment for the panels being tested over an extended period of time. It is used as an accelerated method to determine the ability of surface coatings to withstand atmospheric corrosion in extreme scenarios. After the panel coating is cut with an X mark on the surface, the panel is placed in the chamber and exposed to the corrosive saline environment for a specified amount of time. They are then checked at regular intervals to document the degree of corrosion that has developed, and how far the corrosion has spread.
